Expect Mild Headaches and Manage Discomfort

It is common to experience a mild headache after Botox or Dysport injections. This usually lasts a short time and is a normal reaction as your muscles adjust. If you feel discomfort, taking Tylenol (acetaminophen) can help ease the pain. Avoid anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen unless advised by your healthcare provider, as they may increase bruising risk.

Be Patient for Full Results

Botox and Dysport do not work instantly. You should expect to see gradual improvement over 10 to 14 days. During this time, the neurotoxin relaxes targeted muscles, smoothing wrinkles. Avoid rushing to conclusions about effectiveness too soon. If you have concerns, your injector can assess your progress at your follow-up appointment.

Avoid Touching Your Face for Four Hours

After treatment, do not touch, rub, or massage your face for at least four hours. This helps prevent the product from spreading to unintended areas, which could cause unwanted effects like drooping eyelids. Keeping your hands away also reduces the risk of infection at injection sites.

Skip Exercise for 24 Hours

Physical activity increases blood flow and can affect how Botox or Dysport settles in your muscles. Avoid exercise, including yoga, running, or heavy lifting, for 24 hours after your session. This precaution supports even distribution and reduces bruising or swelling.

Stay Upright and Avoid Bending Over or Lying Down for Four Hours

Keep your head elevated and avoid bending over or lying down for four hours post-treatment. This helps the product stay where it was injected. For example, avoid activities like picking up heavy objects or lying flat on your back immediately after your appointment.

Avoid Alcohol for 12 Hours

Alcohol thins your blood and can increase bruising and swelling after injections. To minimize these side effects, do not drink alcohol for at least 12 hours before and after your treatment. Staying hydrated with water supports healing and comfort.

Protect Your Skin from Sun Exposure for 72 Hours

Sun exposure can irritate your skin and increase swelling or redness after Botox or Dysport. Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds for 72 hours. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with SPF 30 or higher if you need to be outdoors. Wearing a wide-brimmed hat adds extra protection.

Do Not Manipulate Your Face or Have Other Facial Treatments for Two Weeks

Avoid facial massages, facials, chemical peels, or microdermabrasion for two weeks after your injections. Manipulating your face can move the product and affect results. This waiting period also reduces the risk of irritation or infection while your skin heals.

Schedule a Follow-Up Appointment Two Weeks After Treatment

A follow-up visit two weeks after your Botox or Dysport session allows your injector to evaluate your results and make any necessary adjustments. This appointment ensures your treatment meets your goals and addresses any concerns you may have.
